We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Aruba and returned the following year because we had an amazing time on our first visit. The island of Aruba is only 20 miles long but packs in so much - great beaches, natural beauty and amazing adventures. We enjoyed all of these so much it was hard to decide what to do next!
Getting around to see all of Aruba is the key and the best way we found to do that was in a Jeep. Aruba has two diverse beach scenes, the calm South and Southwest coasts and the rugged North side of the island.
The south beaches we explored included Eagle Beach, Palm Beach and Baby Beach. Eagle Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The north side of the island is mainly uninhabited and a includes a large national park. You really need a 4x4 to get around on the roads (if you call them roads!) to see some truly amazing sites including natural bridges, blowholes, natural pools and hidden swimming holes and caves. And near Fontein Cave, that has Arawak Indian Paintings, find the freshwater stream with a little footbridge. If you sit on the footbridge and put your feet in the stream, you will get a fish pedicure, it tickles!
Aruba has a lot to see and enjoy and was a great place to get away and enjoy the sun and surf and the raw beauty of the island. Also, Aruba is not in the hurricane belt so a great destination during hurricane season!
