London had always been a place that we wanted to visit so when we began looking for where we wanted to celebrate our 30th Anniversary it was an easy choice! After a quick-ish flight from New Jersey we found our way to our hotel - The Grosvenor House which was located just off Hyde Park. Given that London is a very walkable city with great mass transit we were able to get around without any problem without a car. London has a ton to offer from history and architecture to great food to the arts to sports to just walking around - we were lucky enough to do a little of each of these.
Since we wanted this to be a more casual trip we did not buy any tour tickets ahead of time but we decided to tour The Tower of London and Westminster Abbey after we arrived - both of which we would highly recommend! While walking through the city we were able to see several of London's incredible landmarks like Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, Notting Hill, Big Ben, the London Bridge and Tower Bridge, Parliament and Buckingham Palace.
The only tickets we bought ahead of time were for Shakespeare's Globe Theater and a Football game at Wembley. We enjoyed seeing "As You Like It" in the rain, while the performers were in the rain, we happily we had seats under the roof area! The Premier League teams were on break but we saw England beat Italy in a Eurocup qualifier match.
From awesome Indian food (and great service!) at Dishoom to strawberries covered in chocolate at the Borough Market to the many pubs we stopped into for a pint we thoroughly enjoyed the food and drink in London.
You may see a pattern here......
